Dental implants

At hermitageclinic we have specialist's implantologists to place the implants therefore we guarantee a very high success rate. Dental implant is the treatment of choice for replacing a missing tooth.

The main reason for replacing missing tooth is appearance. Another is that the gap left by a missing tooth can mean greater strain is put on the teeth at either side. A gap can also mean your "bite" is affected, because the teeth next to the space can lean into the gap and alter the way the upper and lower teeth bite together. This can then lead to food getting packed into the gap, which causes both decay and gum disease.

A dental implant is a titanium metal rod which is placed into the jawbone. It is used to support one or more false teeth. In practice, both the false teeth and their supporting rod are known as "implants". Dental implants are used in both Cosmetic and Prosthetic Dentistry.

There are several types of dental implants. The most widely accepted and successful implant today is the Osseointegrated implant. The titanium can be successfully fused into bone when small bone cells grow on and into the rough surface of the implanted titanium. This forms a structural and functional connection between the living bone and the implant.

Implants are a well-established, tried-and-tested treatment. Over 95 per cent of modern implants should last a lifetime with the right care. Usually the treatment takes 3 to 6 months after the implants are put in. Some teeth can now even be fitted at the same time as the implants known as immediate implants.

The success of treatment depends on the state of the bone in your jaw. If there is not enough, or if it isn't healthy enough, it may not be possible to place implants without grafting bone into the area first. Other factors such as Heavy Smoking/Bruxisim/Periodontal disease/Heavy alcohol consumption/ uncontrolled type II diabetes and other complex medical disorders could affect the success of the treatment.
