ORAL SURGERY SERVICES IN WAPPING, EAST LONDON

One area of speciality areas within dentistry is known as oral surgery and this applies to procedures of a surgical nature, such as the extraction of teeth or wisdom teeth.

Oral surgery requires additional training in techniques to perform procedures with care, helping patients to be able to use their teeth and mouths again. If you have advanced tooth decay or an impacted wisdom tooth, you may require oral surgery to have them safely extracted.

Depending on your individual case and the severity of your problem, you will be given local anaesthetic and offered sedation if you are anxious. It is important to always get the advice of a dental professional if you are worried about any of your teeth. Never attempt to pull out your own tooth out at home as this could cause a more serious problem for you.

At Hermitage Clinic, we have the right equipment and sterile environment in which to perform this type of procedure with the utmost care and efficiency. We understand that facing any surgical procedure can be scary so we do absolutely all that we can to create a safe, caring and welcoming atmosphere so you feel at ease at every step of the way.

Our aim is to always preserve and retain teeth and avoid extractions, but sometimes it’s the best outcome for your oral health. Extractions can stop an infection from spreading as well as provide relief from dental pain.

Common reasons for removing a tooth

  • Extensive decay or a broken tooth that cannot be repaired.
  • A baby tooth that has failed to fall out and is preventing a permanent tooth from emerging.
  • An impacted wisdom tooth – wisdom teeth are the last set of teeth to emerge, but if there is not sufficient space in the mouth, they may come through at an angle or fail to fully erupt. This can result in the tooth becoming ‘impacted’, which can cause swelling, pain and infection of the surrounding gum area.
  • The need to make more space for orthodontic treatment to reduce crowding and so optimum results can be achieved.

An extraction will either be a simple extraction, performed on a tooth that can be seen in the mouth, or a complex surgical extraction which is used for a tooth that has broken off at the gum line or has not yet emerged. Our Team will explain the procedure and answer any questions that you have. We will then plan the procedure ahead of your scheduled appointment to ensure that we remove the tooth in the best possible way for you.
